About & Vision

With over 360 years of winemaking heritage in the Cape, the Cape Vintner Classification (CVC) was established to promote and market distinctive Cape site specific wines, and the remarkable wineries that produce them. Recognising the importance of preserving this winemaking heritage and building a legacy is the foundation of the organisation.

A thorough and rigorous set of criteria controls membership into the CVC. Members must maintain the highest standards within their vineyard, winemaking and ethical practices, as well as world class cellar door facilities in order to be considered.

Collectively promoting the member’s world-class Cape wines is of key importance to the CVC.

CVC Membership is Based on 4 Pillars

Each member has pledged to farm in an environmentally sustainable and respectful manner

They guarantee the ethical and fair treatment of all those who work for them

The wine quality is proven and best represents the terroir and provenance from whence it comes

The cellar door facilities exceed global expectations

Our Vision

Collectively promoting the member’s world-class Cape wines is of key importance to the CVC.

“The CVC is a platform to promote the best expression of site, credibility and consistency amongst South Africa’s best producers and their wines” – Johann Krige, CVC Chairman 2021

The purpose of the CVC is thus to lay a lasting foundation on which to create Cape wines that stand alongside the finest wines in the world.
